#22: Piñata Non Grata

So bright and colorful
Made of paper mache
Here to bring joy
For this kids fifth birthday

Strung up real high
What a great view
I beamed with a smile
Precious and new

The parents debating
And looking around
The kids so rambunctious
Toys on the ground.

Fun for all
From what I could see
I felt so special
Up in this tree

The kids lined up
Awaiting their turn
But for what?
Soon I would learn

The first boy blindfolded
They spun him around
They gave him a bat
A man lowered me down

The boy swung at the air
All the kids laughed
I found it funny too
So I smiled back

He swung again
He almost hit me
I pondered at what
This cruel game could be

He took one more swing
It was a decent thwack
Right on the very
Small of my back

I swung around,
A bit perturbed,
This party is no fun,
These kids are disturbed

The next kid came up,
He knocked at my arm,
It now hung by a thread,
I’m now quite alarmed.

Angry now,
I screamed and hissed,
“I hope each and every
One of you miss!”

But oh the next kid,
Larger in size,
Surely soon,
I’ll meet my demise.

He swung hard,
Knocking me clear off my string,
Hitting the ground,
What a terrible thing.

The kids all clamoring,
Grabbing my guts,
I was full of candy,
Goodies and such.

Birthday parties,
I thought they’d be fun
But it turns out that,
I’d see only one.
